FRESH FOOD FOR THE CHILDREN
Our Run the Race food pantry is filled with healthy food and fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat for the children to eat, share, and take home. Every day, our ravenous, growing kids raid the pantry. We can always use your help to keep it stocked!
We could debate forever the reasons why some people are in the situations they are in. We might all have different opinions on how best to help them. But here's an idea about how we can help the children, who are the innocent victims of their parents' choices and who are our best hope for the future. This is one part of a big puzzle we have to put together in order to help the children in every way they need help. This one part of the puzzle is about getting them fresh fruits and vegetables and meat to eat. Soup kitchens and food pantries are great but they can't stock fresh foods. The inner city children are always in need of food. It is worse in the summertime because they won't be getting breakfast and lunch at school. So, here's the plan: We are starting a new project of the Foundation called - well, I don't know yet what to call it. It doesn't matter. But this is how it works: we need 40 people to donate $10.00 once a month. That $400.00 will go strictly to buying food. Mostly fresh food but also some other things the children like, such as fruit roll-ups, yogurt and granola bars. We need 2 or 3 people to volunteer to do the shopping and delivering. We need volunteers to cut out coupons and check the grocery store flyers for the bargains. And we need one very brave soul to take on the organizing of it all.
There are over 40 children in Run The Race; 25 of them are in dire straits. So, what do you think?
Please send an e-mail to anyone and everyone you think can commit to $10.00 a month, whether they live in Columbus or not. Every single penny will go towards food - no "overhead," no "administrative" costs - nothing.
The city, county and state social service agencies are overwhelmed with the number of people who need help. They are doing their job. The Christian community (that's us!) can make a big difference, filling in the gaps left by social services and going one step farther - bringing Christ and His love to these very sad and mixed up people. It's time we helped make the west side of Columbus a real Christian neighborhood again.
